My name is Alicia and I'm a 30-something aspiring traveler.
I fancy myself one of those graceful, put-together girls who can wear heels (and not wobble), or drink martinis (without spilling). But instead, I'm the girl who wears Converse with dresses, packs for comfort over fashion, and will most certainly spill any food or drink provided to me.
I'm my best self when I'm involved in something I love doing, like creating or traveling. I love meeting new folks on my travels, but I'm also an introvert, so I always carry a book and a knitting project with me.
I've previously lived in New Jersey, Vermont, and Massachusetts before settling in Virginia (like the OG John Smith). I have my degree in meteorology and worked as a meteorologist for four years before starting my own business as a photographer.
My husband Jon is my travel companion. He's the one person I can travel with long term and not get sick of.
I've visted 14 countries and 27 states - a drop in the bucket compared to most travelers, but I've got big dreams. I speak English (duh?) and un peu de Francais - in fact, one of my dreams is to live in Paris and study the French language.
I see life's simplest things as adventures. It's the best way to experience the excitement that travel brings when I'm between trips. That's also why I started this blog. Normal people can only take so much of my travel tales, but my fellow travelers will enjoy every word.

When you're afraid of everything - everything - the world seems large and scary. And when something is scary, the best way to make it less so is to learn more about it and then tackle it like a boss.
After reading an article about traveling the world in 2004, I signed up for a message board dedicated to backpacking through Europe. The bookshelf in my apartment quickly began to fill with books about travel. And I created countless itineraries for trips that I had no actual plans to take. You know, because anxiety.
It's been a long journey of panic attacks on airplanes and an imagination gone so wild, I could probably be of some benefit to the CIA in attempting to beat bad guys at their own game. Now that I'm in my 30s with the typical prime traveling years behind me, I'm finally getting started; my list of visited countries is small (15) but growing. In 2016 I made huge steps in overcoming my fear of flying, taking 22 flights and not medicating for most of them. Escaping my comfort zone to explore a new town, city, or country brings me a high that no drug could ever match. And as a professional photographer, I look forward to documenting my travels in the best way I know how.
My intention with this website and blog is to fill it with photographs and stories from my travels, both near and far. I want to reach people who have dreamed of traveling and never thought it would happen, or people who got a late start into their explorations but are taking them nonetheless. I want to show people that you can be a traveler even with a near-empty map and no intention of taking on a nomadic lifestyle.
I invite you to come along with me as I set forth on my goal to break through my personal barriers and travel the world, one trip at a time.
(Oh, and the name of my blog? It comes from a song by the Beatles on one of the best albums of all time, Rubber Soul: Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown).
